Hey guys one day I was wondering why the orgin of the vampire genre started out as a myth instead of fiction so I looked up a bunch of stuff and one thing lead to another and suddenly it hits me, the fact is that there are actuall very rare viruses and blood diseses that have infected people of the medevil times which lead people to belive in a such thing we call the vampire so do you think the myth is true or is it a hoax?
PS: One of my hobbies is looking up urban myths such as ufos, nessie, bigfoot, demonic spirits, angel sightings, and even underground humanoid evolution (which I think is possible) _________________ Shake and Bake! |

You know, funny you should mention it. I was watching a show on the History Channel (I think) and it mentioned something similar to your inquiry.
Back in Boston during the 18th Century (I think) the was a town that was stricken with an unknown disease that eventually killed the victim. This disease was so peculiar because before the victim would die, they would lose weight abd become very pale, but after they were buried something else occured. One day the townspeople had dug up one of the coffins for inspection and they found that the body had swelled up! The common belief at the time was that the dead were raising from the dead, feeding on humans and inflicting this disease on the living! Many experts now believe that for some reason during the preparation of the body and burial of the coffin, internal gases caused the corpse to swell and return some of their color back to them giving the appearance of life after death. Hmph, go figure . . . |

Hey Prodigy:
If you're interested, you should check out information on the "Highgate Vampire". It was supposedly a "real" vampire that terrorized the cemetary grounds in the Highgate area of London in the 70's. It's a good read, and interesting too. You can google it or go here http://www.gothicpress.freeserve.co.uk/Highgate%20Vampire%20Picture.htm. It also has some cool hits on Youtube. Some say it's a hoax and some people believe that there is still a vampire or ghost inhabiting the cemetary still...I'm on the fence I guess. But the cemetary is nearly 200 years old itself, so there are alot of possibilities. |

Some people think that the vampire myth started with a rare disorder called porphyria. One of the symptoms of it is the skin is burned by the sun, and it is said that back in medieval times, drinking blood was thought to cure porphyria (but I'm not sure if that part's true or not). _________________ "...Life is like a mop."-Stanley Spadowski, UHF |

I believe the disease had much to do with it but I believe what really started the whole vampire craze was because of the actions of a woman known as "The Blood Countess, Elizabeth Bathory of Hungary." The things this woman did are unreal and gastly! She was born in the year 1650 so WAY before the disease hit. If you are interested here is a link explaining The Blood Countess. I strongly recommend reading it if you're into vampires

Hope they will make a movie on Elizabeth Bathori. _________________ Being stressed out and overweight may not be YOUR fault! It's true, a mysterious condition might be to blame.

Hello guys!!
Dracula is a novel, a fictional story, which used a real villain as a model. Fictional characters like Sherlock Holmes, Robinson Crusoe, Hannibal Lecter, etc. are based on real people, but they are fictional so the author can do whatever he likes with them. The real 'Dracula' was a Romanian duke in the 15th century called Vlad Drakul, known in history as Vlad the Impaler. _________________ make money online |
